Signs and symptoms of anxiety

people suffering form anxiety, can quite often complain of physical problems too ,heart palpitations, tiredness, nausea, chest pain, shortness of breath, stomach aches, or headaches.  External signs of anxiety may include pale skin, sweating, trembling, and pupillary dilation.  Quite often people describe anxiety as a feeling of dread or panic.

Not everyone experiences ‘panic attacks’, they are quite common. Panic attacks usually come without warning, and although the fear is generally irrational with little or no actual danger present, the fear is often very very real to the person experiencing it.  It is not uncommon for people suffering panic attacks to present at accident and emergency services up and down the country, thinking that they are dying or having a heart attack, such are the strength of percieved pain that can be caused by anxiety.

Aside from the pyhsical symptoms, there are many emotional symptoms involved as well. Some of them include: “Feelings of apprehension or dread, trouble concentrating, feeling tense or jumpy, thinking the worst in a given situation, irritability, restlessness, watching (and waiting) for signs (and occurrences) or danger, and, feeling like your mind’s gone blank, or wandering, daydreaming”.  Some people also suffer from strong and vivid dreams or nightmares

One of the most common symptoms of anxiety is fear, which includes the fear of dying. This could come in the form of fear from a physical experience for example heart palputations tingling sensations in arms may lead to you thinking that you are going to have a heart attack.  A headache can be magnified and this could lead to thinking “ive got a brain tumor”.  All of this line of thinking can very easily lead to compounding the anxiety itself and making the whole experience ten-fold worse.
